New Game of Thrones Story From George R.R. Martin to Appear in Anthology

It seems like George R.R. Martin is writing again, but apparently it’s not to be the next full length installment of his Ice and Fire series.

Appearing on Amazon is a new fantasy anthology, The Book of Swords, edited by Gardner Dozois and scheduled to release in October.

Along with 14 other fantasy tales, the description promises a short story from Martin, based in Westeros.

“Fifteen original tales celebrating fantasy’s golden age of sword and sorcery, including a new story from George R. R. Martin set in the world of A Game of Thrones!”

No cover art is available yet, but you can preorder the upcoming fantasy anthology right now, and it looks like it is already selling pretty well considering that it will be nine months before it’s ready to ship.

According to fansite, the anthology has been in the works since 2015. Dozois, a Science Fiction Hall of Famer who edited Asimov’s for 20 years, has worked with Martin before.

Other authors onboard include Matthew Hughes, Ken Liu, Ellen Kushner, Scott Lynch, Robin Hobb, Dan Abraham, K.J. Parker, Garth Nix, Elizabeth Bear, Cecelia Holland, and C.J. Cherryh

It may fill a bit of the void for fans who’ve been waiting patiently for The Winds of Winter; the last Song of Ice and Fire installment has been six years in the making, with the last book, A Dance with Dragons, coming out in 2011.
