Rumors Say End of ‘Sherlock,’ Thanks to ‘Frosty Relationship’ between Cumberbatch and Freeman

Martin Freeman can’t seem to get along with anyone these days.

First he splits from his partner of 16 years, the delightful Amanda Abbington, despite the two children and the “civilized” nature of the separation.

Now rumors are floating that he and his cohort, Benedict Cumberbatch, may take a bow on Sherlock, making the controversial Season 4 of the show the very last. And some rumors point the finger at the “frosty relationship” between the two stars.

According to British redtop tabloid, The Sun, sources say of the two much in demand actors:

“They’re professional and very polite to each other but there’s not the warmth you’d expect after filming together for six years. There isn’t a huge desire to come back for another season.”

Both actors have had complaints about the difficulty of filming the popular TV show, between scheduling time opt film the series between movie roles, and the difficulty of the actual filming because of fan interest at live locales. Freeman once complained:

“When we’re [filming at] our stand-in for Baker Street, it is hard to do your job. And I don’t love it. I don’t love it. It’s like trying to act at a premiere.”

Of Freeman’s relationship with his costar, another source told The Sun:

“Benedict and Martin aren’t mates and they don’t spend time together away from the show.”

And of course, the quality of the relationship between Freeman and Cumberbatch may have nothing to do with whether or not the series is continued. Showrunner Steven Moffat has said that filming the modern update of the Victorian era detective really depends on Cumberbatch and Freeman’s schedules.

Season 4 received a great deal of criticism for it’s bizarre plot twists as well as the gory season finale. Ratings for the penultimate episode were disappointingly low, as fans complained about some unhappy surprises in the first two episodes.
